Baked Ziti

This popular Italian-American dish is made with ziti pasta, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and ground beef.

Ingredients
  

  • 16 oz dry ziti pasta
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 28oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups grated mozzarella cheese divided
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375ºF. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Cook ziti pasta al dente, according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • Stir in garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper, to taste; simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  • In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 1 cup mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, and egg.
  • Place half of the cooked ziti into the prepared baking dish. Top with half of the sausage mixture and top with half of the cheese mixture.
  • Repeat layering with the remaining ziti, sausage, and cheese mixture.
  • Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella cheese.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
  • Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
