Ingredients:

For the cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water

For the Peanut Butter Frosting:

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

For the Chocolate Ganache:

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Directions

1 – Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

2 – In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

3 – Whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl until smooth.

4 – Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Pour in the hot water and stir until the batter is smooth.

5 – Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

6 – Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

7 – To make the peanut butter frosting, beat together the peanut butter and softened butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until light and fluffy. Add the heavy cream, a tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.

8 – Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving platter. Spread a thick layer of peanut butter frosting on top. Place the second layer of cake on top and frost the top and sides with the remaining frosting.

9 – To make the chocolate ganache, heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and pour over the chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl. Let sit for 2-3 minutes, then stir until smooth. Let the ganache cool slightly, then pour it over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

10 -Slice and serve the cake, and enjoy the decadent combination of chocolate and peanut butter!
